Kirklees Council Local Plan Review
The Council has started that Local Plan Review.
The Government requires Councils to review their Local Plan every 5 years. In Kirklees since then the Council has declared a climate emergency which must be taken into account.
The Council will assess whether housing and business development targets have been met and what changes need to be made. This is expecially important for us in Cleckheaton and the Spen Valley. The job creation targets of the Council depended to a large extent on the Amazon warehouse being built.
Thanks to the determined efforts of Save Our Spen campaign group with the support of local councillors and 1,000s of residents, the Amazon plans were rejected. We want the Council to change the allocation of the "Amazon" site so warehouses cannot be built there.
The following is what the Council states it will do:
"The review will take place over the next few months, and the results will then be shared through Cabinet."
In other words there is no opportunity for Councillors (except those in the Labour Cabinet) to have any input at this stage. However, if the Cabinet thinks changes to the existing Local Plan have to be made, then there will be "engagement with local residents and businesses".
