Since her election to Kirkburton Parish Council last November, Alison Munro has been helping local people initiate a Neighbourhood Plan proposal for Lepton. A formal request was made to Kirkburton Parish Council to initiate production of a Plan, which was passed at a KPC meeting in August. The next step will be a survey of the area.
"I think the rest of Almondbury would benefit from a Neighbourhood Plan, but it will need a separate proposal and a separate group to lead it," said Alison Munro. "A Neighbourhood Plan can protect against future developments and ensure that Almondbury gets its fair share of the new Community Infrastructure Levy, if developments go ahead. Local people can also prioritise spending in the area on traffic issues and community facilities.
"Through our surveys quite a lot of local people have expressed interest in being involved, and we plan to call a meeting soon to discuss it. A Neighbourhood Plan has to be inclusive and represent people of all political persuasions, as well as local organisations and businesses. All will be invited to our meeting.”
Liberal Democrats have always believed that local people should have as much control as possible over local decisions, and therefore support Neighbourhood Plans. We want as many people as possible to get involved; please contact us here.
