Councillors Alison Munro, Paola Davies together with local resident Patrycja Bartosinska are demanding that Kirklees Council install electric vehicle (EV ) charging points for use by residents living in Almondbury and Lepton.

Kirklees declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and pledged to  to make Kirklees carbon neutral by 2038.  One of the measures being taken is to install EV charging points in 17 sites across Kirklees including the following areas, Huddersfield Town Centre; Dewsbury Town Centre; Mirfield; Holmfirth; Heckmondwike; Batley; Cleckheaton; Slaithwaite and Lindley.  Many areas like Almondbury and Newsome Wards were not considered for the scheme.  We believe it is unacceptable to expect motorists in Almondbury and Lepton to have to drive to Huddersfield Town Centre or elsewhere to charge their vehicles.  This will increase traffic converging on the Town Centre and require residents to spend more time on the road.

It is vital residents across Almondbury and Newsome Wards are incentivised to choose carbon- zero options and have the same facilities in their own areas as do others.

We demand that EV charging points be installed in Almondbury and Lepton as a matter of urgency!
