Kirklees Council plans for an end to FREE parking in Slaithwaite and Marsden? Cllr Nicola Turner is leading the fight back in Colne Valley.
Kirklees Labour plans in the Council Budget refer to a "review" of parking charges in towns and villages where it is currently FREE.
The Budget assumes that new charges will raise £250,000 for drivers over the next couple of years. No wonder the result of the “review” is seen as a forgone conclusion with Labour having already made up their minds.
However, we CAN STOP this attack on the viability of our town.
Please sign the Petition and then please spread the word and ask people to sign. We need a massive show of support to stop this going ahead.
This is the page from the Council's Budget book 2018 that shows the plan for an end to free car parking in some of our towns and villages.
Slaithwaite and Marsden do benefit from free car parking at the moment, including Carr Lane, New Street, Hollins Glen, Old Bank and Argyle Street. Having free parking in our villages helps to encourage shoppers, visitors, and organisations to use our villages and boosts the local economy.
Huddersfield and Dewsbury are to have multi-million £ investments in the town centres. Slaithwaite and Marsden have no funding to help the village centres. At the same time Kirklees Labour plan to take even more out of Colne Valley. It is simply not acceptable. Please make your views known by signing the petition.
