£45,000 FOOTPATH WORKS UNDERWAY IN COLNE VALLEY9.21.00pm GMT Thu 5th Nov 2009
A £45,000 scheme to create a circular footpath around Pig Hill Wood at Nettleton Hill, Colne Valley Ward, is underway and will be completed in three weeks time. The project has been funded using money secured via a Lib Dem amendment to a previous year's council budget. The site is being created to provide further recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to the area. It also contributes to the achievement of the Colne Valley Public Rights of Way and Footpaths Strategy. The route will be 2.6km or 1,6 miles when completed and take in excellent views of the Colne Valley. Cllr Nicola Turner, Lib Dem in Colne Valley Ward, said: "This scheme is a further piece of investment we have directed in the area seeking to improve the public rights of way network in the Colne Valley. Our network of paths attracts many visitors each year who come to enjoy the walks, fresh air, scenery and wildlife. By investing in them we are supporting the continued growth of the Colne valley as a tourist destination in addition to ensuring that the local businesses that benefit from visitors to the area continue to do so. One of the Colne Valley's greatest assets, apart from its people, is it wonderful environment and we really should make the most out of it. My colleagues and I in the Cone Valley are very much looking forward to seeing the route completed in the near future."
