Neighbourhood plan for Lepton gets go ahead!

Since her election to Kirkburton Parish Council last November, Cllr. Alison Munro has been helping local people initiate a Neighbourhood Plan proposal for Lepton, Fenay Bridge, Lascelles Hall and Gawthorpe.

A group called ‘Lepton Vision’ has been formed, with the support of Lepton Community Link, and a formal request was made to Kirkburton Parish Council to initiate production of a Plan, which was passed at a KPC meeting in August. The next step will be a survey of the area.

"It is really important that a Neighbourhood Plan is inclusive and not political," said Alison Munro. "I hope as many people as possible will get actively involved with Lepton Vision. It is important to be clear that any Neighbourhood Plan will be too late to prevent the Kirklees Local Plan and will have to be consistent with it. Fighting the Local Plan will occur in parallel with developing the Neighbourhood Plan."

"However, a Neighbourhood Plan is not just about current housing developments: We can protect against future developments and ensure that Lepton gets its fair share of the new Community Infrastructure Levy, which could be a very large sum if all the proposed developments go ahead. We can also prioritise spending in the area on traffic issues and community facilities."

Liberal Democrats have always believed that local people should have as much control as possible over local decisions, and therefore support Neighbourhood Plans. We want as many people as possible to get involved, so if you would like to join Lepton Vision just contact us.
